What this trial studies

The intervention delivers classroom workshops grounded in Protection Motivation Theory aiming to increase climate change awareness, environmental literacy, and pro-environmental behaviors among middle school students. Sessions combine information on climate impacts to health, PMT-based threat and coping messages, and hands-on activities to promote sustainable actions. Outcomes are measured using revised assessment instruments with pre- and post-intervention comparisons following ethics committee–approved protocol changes after a pilot. The program is conducted in person at Selçuklu Belediyesi Ortaokulu with required parental consent and exclusion for plant/grass allergies.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal participants are 12–13-year-old students enrolled at Selçuklu Belediyesi Ortaokulu who assent to participate, have parental consent, and do not have a plant or grass allergy.

Not a fit: Students outside the 12–13 age range, those with plant or grass allergies (excluded from participation), or pupils who already practice high levels of eco-friendly behavior may see little additional benefit.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: Participants could gain improved climate knowledge and practical habits that increase eco-friendly behaviors and potentially benefit community health over time.

How similar studies have performed: Previous educational and PMT-based interventions targeting environmental behaviors have shown modest improvements in awareness and intentions, though effects on sustained behavior are variable.
