What this trial studies

WOMENinMOTION is a randomized controlled trial comparing a person-centered prevention and intervention program plus usual care to usual care alone for pregnancy-related pelvic girdle pain. The program combines pain education addressing sensory, emotional, and cognitive pain components with motivational support to promote healthful physical activity and daily activity adaptations. Digital materials include instructive exercise videos, guidance on pelvic belt use, and information to reduce worries, with physiotherapist support offered when digital content is insufficient. Participants are pregnant women with or without pelvic girdle pain and are randomized to the intervention or control group at sites in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are pregnant women (single pregnancy) with or without pelvic girdle pain who do not have major musculoskeletal surgery, serious neurological disease, or uncontrolled intercurrent illnesses.

Not a fit: Patients with prior pelvic or spinal fractures or major pelvic surgery, multiple pregnancy, significant musculoskeletal or nervous-system disease, or serious comorbidities like uncontrolled diabetes or hypertension are unlikely to benefit or be eligible.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the program could reduce the risk of persistent pelvic pain and help pregnant women maintain lifelong, healthy physical activity habits.

How similar studies have performed: Previous trials combining pain education, exercise, and physiotherapy have shown moderate benefits for pregnancy-related pelvic pain, while fully digital programs remain less thoroughly tested.
