WeChat-based human-centered nursing support for people undergoing awake thermal ablation for papillary thyroid carcinoma
Humanistic Continuing Care Via WeChat for Patients Undergoing Thermal Ablation of Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma
NA · China-Japan Friendship Hospital · NCT07302672

What this trial studies
This randomized interventional trial compares a structured humanistic continuing-care program delivered via WeChat with usual nursing care for patients undergoing thermal ablation under local anesthesia. Participants will be assigned to receive either WeChat-based emotional support, clear communication, comfort measures, and postoperative follow-up or standard nursing care. Emotional distress and quality of life will be measured with questionnaires before the procedure, during the perioperative period, and at postoperative follow-up visits. The study is conducted at China-Japan Friendship Hospital in Beijing and requires participants to use WeChat on a smartphone.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are people aged 16–60 with T1N0M0 papillary thyroid carcinoma (≤3 lesions, largest ≤2 cm) scheduled for awake thermal ablation who own a smartphone and can use WeChat.
Not a fit: Patients with prior thyroid surgery or ablation, serious medical or cognitive conditions, inability or unwillingness to use WeChat, or those who cannot tolerate local anesthesia are unlikely to benefit.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the intervention could lower procedure-related anxiety and improve post-procedure quality of life and recovery for patients.
How similar studies have performed: Related telehealth and human-centered nursing programs have reduced perioperative anxiety in other settings, but structured WeChat continuing care for thyroid thermal ablation is relatively novel.
