What this trial studies
This study develops and evaluates a web-based nursing intervention aimed at increasing physical activity among older adults aged 65 and older who have coronary heart disease. It explores the needs of these individuals regarding such an intervention and assesses its acceptability and feasibility. The study also examines the preliminary effects of the intervention on participants' physical activity levels and quality of life, as well as their qualitative experiences. By leveraging the growing internet usage among older adults, the intervention aims to provide necessary support through a trusted healthcare professional.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are older adults aged 65 and above who are post-hospitalization for coronary bypass graft surgery or percutaneous coronary intervention and are interested in increasing their physical activity.
Not a fit: Patients currently involved in other interventions aimed at increasing physical activity, such as cardiac rehabilitation programs, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly enhance the physical activity levels and overall quality of life for older adults with coronary heart disease.
How similar studies have performed: While web-based interventions for older adults are gaining traction, this specific approach focusing on nursing support for coronary heart disease is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
Eligibility criteria

Inclusion Criteria: * aged 65 years or older * agreement to participate in the study about 3 months post-hospitalization for a coronary bypass graft surgery or a percutaneous coronary intervention (as motivation to change behavior would be highest during this period) * no concurrent involvement in an intervention designed to increase their level of physical activity (e.g., a cardiac rehabilitation program, consultation with physical activity expert) during their participation in the project * an interest in increasing their level of physical activity post-hospitalization * fluency in French, spoken and written * living in the greater Montreal area * access to a computer connected to the Internet * no cognitive impairments according to the patient record (i.e., decreased or impaired complex attention, executive functions, learning abilities, memory or social skills)
