Water-based burpee exercises to improve functional capacity in postmenopausal women after thyroidectomy
Water Based Burpee Exercises on Functional Capacity in Poste-menopausal Women After Thyroidectomy
NA · Al-Zaytoonah University of Jordan · NCT07052279

What this trial studies
This interventional program enrolls postmenopausal women (around 54 ± 4 years) who are obese (BMI ≥ 30 kg/m²) and have undergone thyroidectomy to take part in supervised water-based burpee sessions or an aerobic exercise comparator. Participants are required to be non-smokers without cardiovascular disease, severe lower-limb osteoarticular dysfunction, or water panic. Functional capacity, muscle strength, balance, and related fitness measures will be recorded before and after the intervention to measure change over time. The approach builds on prior evidence that aquatic exercise can improve strength and balance in older adults.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are postmenopausal women roughly in their mid-50s who have undergone thyroidectomy, have BMI ≥ 30 kg/m², are non-smokers, and have no cardiovascular, severe osteoarticular, neurologic, or water-panic conditions.
Not a fit: Patients with cardiovascular disease, severe lower-limb joint problems, water panic, active neurological or psychiatric disorders, current smokers, or those unwilling to attend on-site pool sessions are unlikely to benefit.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could increase muscle strength and balance, reduce fall risk, and improve daily physical function in the target group.
How similar studies have performed: Aquatic exercise programs have shown benefits for strength, balance, and coordination in older adults, but water-based burpee exercises specifically have not been previously tested in this population.
