What this trial studies
This study investigates the effects of walking with a dog on tinnitus complaints in patients suffering from mild obstructive sleep apnea. A total of 40 obese participants with bilateral chronic subjective tinnitus will be divided into two groups: one group will engage in dog walking three times a week for 30 minutes while following a low-calorie diet, and the control group will only adhere to the diet. The study aims to assess whether the added physical activity of walking with a dog can improve tinnitus symptoms. The intervention will last for 12 weeks.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are obese individuals with bilateral chronic subjective tinnitus and mild obstructive sleep apnea.
Not a fit: Patients with a body mass index over 40 kg/m2 or those with cardiovascular, hepatorenal, autoimmune, or orthopedic problems may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could provide a novel and enjoyable method for alleviating tinnitus symptoms in patients with obstructive sleep apnea.
How similar studies have performed: While there is evidence supporting the benefits of exercise for tinnitus and sleep apnea, this specific approach of dog walking has not been widely tested, making it a novel intervention.
