What this trial studies
This study focuses on children diagnosed with phenylketonuria (PKU) who also suffer from non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. It involves a randomized assignment of 40 participants into two groups: one group will engage in a daily online supervised walking program for eight weeks, while the other group will serve as a waitlist control. The aim is to assess the impact of physical activity on the metabolic complications associated with PKU and fatty liver. The study seeks to provide insights into non-pharmacological interventions for managing these conditions in children.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are obese children diagnosed with phenylketonuria and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
Not a fit: Patients with cardiac issues, diabetes, neurogenic disorders, or respiratory and renal problems may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could improve liver health and overall metabolic function in children with PKU and fatty liver.
How similar studies have performed: While there is limited data on similar interventions specifically for PKU children, studies on physical activity in managing fatty liver have shown promising results.
