Walking exercise and CPAP for patients with sleep apnea and fatty liver

Impact of Free Walking Exercise on Obstructive Sleep Apnea Patients With Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver on Liver Enzymes, Degree of Exhaustion, and Quality of Sleep

Not applicable Interventional Ahram Canadian University · NCT06508190

What this trial studies

This research evaluates the effects of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) combined with a walking exercise program on fatigue severity, liver enzyme levels, and sleep quality in patients suffering from non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and obstructive sleep apnea. A total of forty patients will be enrolled and divided into two groups: one receiving only CPAP treatment and the other receiving both CPAP and a walking exercise regimen. The study aims to determine if the addition of physical activity can enhance the benefits of CPAP therapy.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients with obstructive sleep apnea and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease who have a body mass index (BMI) of less than 35 kg/m2.

Not a fit: Patients with conditions such as liver transplantation, alcoholic fatty liver, or significant cardiac and renal problems may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve the quality of life and health outcomes for patients with both obstructive sleep apnea and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

How similar studies have performed: While the specific combination of CPAP and walking exercise in this context is novel, similar studies have shown positive outcomes with exercise interventions in patients with sleep apnea.
