What this trial studies
This pilot study evaluates the feasibility and preliminary effectiveness of the Voiceitt app, which is designed to assist individuals with speech impairments caused by conditions like cerebral palsy, stroke, ALS, or Parkinson's disease. The app utilizes a voice recognition and dictation tool that adapts to users' unique speech patterns, aiming to enhance their communication abilities. The study focuses on individuals with mild to moderate speech impairments to determine how well the app can improve their ability to communicate effectively.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 13 or older with moderately severe speech dysarthria due to conditions such as cerebral palsy, stroke, ALS, or Parkinson's disease.
Not a fit: Patients with severe cognitive impairments, additional speech impairments like significant aphasia, or severe physical impairments that prevent interaction with the app may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this app could significantly enhance communication for individuals with speech impairments, improving their quality of life.
How similar studies have performed: While the effectiveness of the Voiceitt app in clinical populations has not been established, similar augmentative communication tools have shown promise in improving communication for individuals with speech impairments.
