What this trial studies
This pilot randomized control trial aims to develop and test a Voice-activated Intelligent Personal Assistant (VIPA) protocol for individuals with Parkinson's disease. The study will first gather input from focus groups and cognitive interviews to create a user-friendly protocol, followed by an evaluation of the intervention's feasibility and preliminary efficacy on psychosocial well-being. Participants will be randomized into intervention and control groups to assess the impact of the VIPA on their sense of coherence and overall well-being over a four-week period.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are Cantonese-speaking Hong Kong permanent residents diagnosed with Parkinson's disease who do not currently use a voice-activated assistant.
Not a fit: Patients with severe voice impairments, dementia, or those who will leave Hong Kong during the intervention period may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could enhance the psychosocial well-being and daily functioning of individuals with Parkinson's disease.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of voice-activated assistants in rehabilitation for older adults shows promise, this specific application for Parkinson's disease is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
