What this trial studies
This study investigates the effects of chewing gum containing vitamin C on the severity of nausea and vomiting experienced by pregnant women. It aims to provide a non-pharmacological option for managing these symptoms, which affect a significant percentage of pregnant individuals. The study will enroll participants who are under 16 weeks of pregnancy and experiencing nausea and vomiting, while excluding those with other health issues or who are smokers. The methodology involves administering vitamin C gum and assessing its impact on symptom severity.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are pregnant women over 18 years old, married, and experiencing nausea and vomiting before the 16th week of pregnancy.
Not a fit: Patients who have health issues causing nausea and vomiting unrelated to pregnancy or those currently receiving antiemetic treatment may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could offer a safe and effective way to alleviate nausea and vomiting in pregnant women without the risks associated with pharmacological treatments.
How similar studies have performed: While there are studies on vitamin C and chewing gum separately, this specific approach has not been extensively tested, making it a novel investigation.
