Virtual reality versus conventional physical therapy for Parkinson's
Virtual Reality Verses Conventional Physical Therapy in Parkinson's Disease Patients

What this trial studies
This randomized, parallel-group trial will assign 62 adults with Parkinson's disease to either virtual reality-based physical therapy or conventional physiotherapy at Shadman Medical Center. Participants aged 45–65 with sufficient cognition (MMSE ≥24) will follow structured treatment programs and undergo baseline and follow-up assessments of balance, gait, walking ability, and fall risk. Randomization is done by a lottery method and the sample size accounts for an anticipated 20% dropout to maintain statistical power. The overall timeline is about nine months, covering recruitment, intervention delivery, follow-up, and data analysis.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults aged 45–65 with a confirmed diagnosis of Parkinson's disease and adequate cognition (MMSE ≥24) who can attend in-person sessions at Shadman Medical Center.
Not a fit: Individuals with other neurological disorders, recent lower-limb fractures or major peripheral surgery, spinal cord injury, or significant cognitive impairment are excluded and unlikely to benefit from this program.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could provide a more engaging and potentially more effective rehabilitation option to improve balance and reduce falls for people with Parkinson's.
How similar studies have performed: Previous smaller studies have suggested virtual reality rehabilitation can improve balance and gait in Parkinson's, but findings are mixed and larger randomized comparisons remain limited.
