What this trial studies
This study compares a newly developed virtual reality simulator for normal vaginal deliveries with a traditional mannequin-based simulation. Year 4 medical students participating in their Obstetrics and Gynecology clerkship will undergo both simulation methods in a cluster randomized design. The effectiveness of each method will be evaluated through pre- and post-simulation knowledge questionnaires and participant feedback on their preferred simulation modality. Ethical approval has been obtained from the National University of Singapore Institutional Review Board.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are Year 4 medical students enrolled in their Obstetrics and Gynecology clerkship.
Not a fit: Patients who are not medical students or those who decline to participate in the simulation will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance medical education by providing a more accessible and effective training tool for obstetric procedures.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with simulation training in medical education, but the use of virtual reality in this specific context is relatively novel.
