What this trial studies
This study aims to develop and test a virtual reality (VR) system designed to assist stroke survivors experiencing spatial neglect, a condition where individuals pay more attention to one side of their body. Participants will undergo assessments to determine the severity of their spatial neglect and will engage in a VR video game intended as a potential treatment. Each session will include pre- and post-game neglect tests, along with participant feedback on the VR experience. The goal is to evaluate the effectiveness of this innovative approach in improving attention and awareness in affected individuals.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are stroke survivors who have experienced a single stroke event and exhibit moderate to severe spatial neglect.
Not a fit: Patients with progressive neurological disorders, significant psychiatric disorders, or vestibular disorders may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this therapy could significantly enhance the quality of life for stroke survivors by improving their spatial awareness and daily functioning.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of virtual reality in rehabilitation is gaining traction, this specific approach to treating spatial neglect in stroke survivors is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
