What this trial studies

This is a randomized controlled experiment run in the oncology unit of Amasya University Hospital comparing virtual reality-based assertiveness training to usual practice. Oncology nurses randomized to the intervention will receive eight weekly group sessions of 30–40 minutes delivered with virtual reality scenarios. Data will be collected before and after the program using a sociodemographic form, the Voltan-Acar Self-Determination Scale, the Maslach Burnout Inventory, the Emotion Expression Scale, and an Assertiveness Skills Form. The primary aim is to measure changes in assertiveness and related communication skills after the intervention.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Oncology nurses aged 18 or older who have worked in oncology clinics for at least six months and agree to participate are the intended participants.

Not a fit: Nurses who already completed prior assertiveness training, those who cannot attend the in-person sessions, or those who do not complete the study measures are unlikely to benefit.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, patients may experience clearer, more confident communication from their nurses, which can reduce confusion and emotional distress during cancer care.

How similar studies have performed: Traditional assertiveness trainings have shown benefit and early VR-based communication trainings are promising, but VR assertiveness training specifically for oncology nurses is relatively novel.
