What this trial studies
This study aims to support frail patients in Nova Scotia who are awaiting transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) by providing a virtual prehabilitation program. The program is designed to improve their overall health and frailty before the procedure, as these patients often face longer wait times and may deteriorate during this period. By utilizing virtual methods, the study seeks to make preoperative cardiac rehabilitation accessible to those who may not be able to attend in-person sessions. The effectiveness of this approach will be evaluated against standard care practices.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are outpatients attending the TAVI clinic at the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre who can provide informed consent.
Not a fit: Patients with severe functional limitations, cognitive impairments, or those lacking internet or telephone access may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could enhance the health and recovery outcomes of frail patients undergoing TAVI.
How similar studies have performed: While the concept of virtual prehabilitation is emerging, this specific approach for TAVI patients is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
