What this trial studies
This project aims to develop and pilot a virtual healthcare agent designed to educate patients with advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD) and their caregivers about kidney transplantation. The initiative addresses the significant knowledge gap that exists due to limited access to nephrology care and the complexities of medical management. By utilizing new media technologies, the virtual assistant will empower patients to seek information tailored to their needs and communicate in a comfortable manner. The goal is to enhance understanding and facilitate informed decision-making regarding kidney transplantation.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are English-speaking adults aged 18 and older with advanced chronic kidney disease who are patients at Penn Medicine.
Not a fit: Patients from vulnerable populations may not benefit from this study due to exclusion criteria.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this initiative could significantly improve patient education and outcomes for those with advanced chronic kidney disease considering transplantation.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of virtual healthcare agents is a growing field, this specific approach to educating CKD patients about transplantation is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
