What this trial studies

This project aims to implement a pilot program that evaluates the feasibility and preliminary effectiveness of a violence prevention initiative delivered by peer support specialists for women undergoing substance use treatment. The program includes PTSD screening, resource referrals, and a two-session interpersonal violence prevention protocol for 60 participants recruited from three treatment facilities. Participants will undergo assessments at baseline, post-intervention, and at one and three months follow-up, focusing on trauma exposure, knowledge of interpersonal violence, and engagement with the intervention.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this program are women aged 18 and older who are currently engaged in substance use treatment.

Not a fit: Patients who are non-English speaking or have acute medical conditions that prevent participation in educational sessions may not benefit from this program.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly reduce the risk of revictimization and substance use relapse among women with a history of trauma.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using peer support specialists for similar interventions, indicating potential for success in this approach.
