What this trial studies

This study focuses on using a video decision aid to assist geriatric patients with frailty in advance care planning. It aims to facilitate shared decision-making by helping patients express their medical care preferences while they are still cognitively capable. The intervention targets individuals aged 65 and older who have been diagnosed with varying degrees of frailty. By addressing the complexities of frailty and the associated health challenges, the study seeks to improve the quality of life and care for this vulnerable population.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals aged 65 and older who are diagnosed with frailty and can communicate effectively.

Not a fit: Patients with impaired visual or hearing abilities that prevent them from watching the video or those who have already signed an advance decision may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could empower frail elderly patients to make informed decisions about their future medical care, potentially improving their quality of life.

How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of using video decision aids in advance care planning for frail elderly patients may be novel, similar studies have shown promise in enhancing decision-making processes in healthcare.
