What this trial studies
Adults scheduled for elective PCI at Tan Tock Seng Hospital will be assigned to receive either a structured educational video about the procedure or usual care without randomisation. Anxiety will be measured with the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory at baseline and again after the intervention to compare changes between groups. Patients must be 21 or older, English-speaking, and clinically stable; those with cognitive impairment, urgent/emergency or outpatient PCI, or participation in other studies are excluded. The primary aim is to determine whether a brief video can reduce preprocedure anxiety in this inpatient population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults aged 21 and over who are hospitalized for an elective PCI, can understand English, are medically stable, and can give voluntary consent are ideal candidates.
Not a fit: Patients undergoing urgent, emergency, or outpatient PCI, those who are medically unstable or have cognitive impairment, or non-English speakers are unlikely to benefit from this intervention.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the video could help patients feel less anxious before PCI, improving their procedure experience and possibly shortening recovery or reducing stress-related complications.
How similar studies have performed: Similar preprocedure educational-video approaches have reduced anxiety in other surgical and cardiac settings, though evidence specifically for elective PCI is limited.
