What this trial studies

This observational study aims to evaluate the use of a video classification index (VCI) for predicting and managing difficult intubation in pediatric patients undergoing scheduled surgery. The study will focus on improving airway management protocols in line with international safety guidelines, including the WHO's surgical safety checklist and the Helsinki Declaration on Patient Safety in Anesthesiology. By analyzing the effectiveness of the VCI scale, the study seeks to enhance the standard of care and reduce the risks associated with difficult airway management. Data will be collected from patients at Clinica Universidad de Navarra over a one-year period.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are pediatric patients scheduled for surgery at the participating hospital.

Not a fit: Patients who are not undergoing surgery or those with pre-existing airway conditions may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved airway management practices, reducing complications during intubation in pediatric patients.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in improving airway management protocols, but the specific application of the VCI scale in this context is relatively novel.
