Vaspin gene changes and blood vaspin levels in people with psoriasis

Correlation Between Vaspin Gene Polymorphism and Serum Vaspin Levels in Psoriasis Vulgaris and Its Relation to Pathogenesis and Risk of the Disease

What this trial studies

This observational, cross-sectional study at Aswan University Hospital will enroll patients with psoriasis to measure serum vaspin levels and to genotype vaspin gene polymorphisms (SERPNA12). Blood samples will be taken for serum protein measurement and DNA analysis, and clinical information including treatment history will be recorded. Eligible participants are newly diagnosed patients or those off treatment for at least six months, while individuals with pregnancy, lactation, chronic systemic disease, malignancy, or other inflammatory conditions are excluded. Data analysis will look for correlations between genotype variants, serum vaspin concentrations, and clinical features of psoriasis.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: People of any age and gender with newly diagnosed psoriasis or who have been off psoriasis treatment for at least six months, who are not pregnant or breastfeeding and do not have chronic systemic or other inflammatory diseases, are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant or lactating, have chronic cardiac, hepatic, or renal disease, malignancy, other inflammatory or autoimmune disorders, or who are currently on psoriasis treatment are unlikely to benefit from participation.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If a link is found, it could help identify genetic markers tied to disease features or metabolic risks and guide future personalized research or risk stratification.

How similar studies have performed: Prior studies have linked adipokines to psoriasis and cardiometabolic risk, but research specifically on vaspin gene polymorphisms is limited and has yielded mixed or preliminary results.
