What this trial studies

This observational study aims to psychometrically validate the Camouflaging Autistic Traits Questionnaire (CAT-Q) in German-speaking individuals. The CAT-Q assesses the extent to which individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) use compensatory strategies, known as camouflaging, to adapt to social situations. The study will include adolescents aged 13 to 21 years, both with ASD and without any psychiatric disorders, to compare camouflaging behaviors. The goal is to provide a valid tool for assessing camouflaging in German-speaking populations, which is currently lacking.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adolescents aged 13 to 21 years who have a principal diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder.

Not a fit: Patients with dementia, below-average cognitive abilities, or severe visual or hearing impairments may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to better understanding and earlier diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder in individuals who camouflage their traits.

How similar studies have performed: While the CAT-Q has been validated in English-speaking populations, this study represents a novel effort to validate it in German-speaking individuals.
