What this trial studies

This study aims to validate a newly developed clinical and biological score, the TU-GIB score, for patients presenting with upper gastrointestinal bleeding in emergency departments. The score is designed to identify patients at high risk for complications, allowing for better management strategies. It has shown improved predictive capabilities compared to the Glasgow-Blatchford score in terms of rebleeding, need for hemostasis therapy, and complications at 30 days. The study will involve multiple emergency departments to ensure external validation of the score.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults over 18 years old presenting to the emergency department with non-traumatic upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage.

Not a fit: Patients under 18 years of age or those with lower gastrointestinal hemorrhage or external hemorrhoids will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this score could enhance patient management and outcomes for those experiencing upper gastrointestinal bleeding.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown success with similar scoring systems, but this specific approach is novel and aims for external validation.
