Baylor Continence Scale in Children With Anorectal Malformations: A Turkish Validity and Reliability Study

Izmir Bakircay University · NCT07029984

What this trial studies

This observational project adapts and tests the Baylor Continence Scale in Turkish-speaking children aged 6–18 who have undergone surgery for anorectal malformations. The work includes forward–back translation and pilot testing with patient–caregiver pairs followed by statistical validation and reliability analyses. Data collection occurs at Ege University and Bakırçay University in Izmir from a sample of confirmed cases. The goal is to produce a standardized, reliable Turkish tool for continence assessment in pediatric surgical follow-up.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Children aged 6–18 who speak Turkish, have a confirmed anorectal malformation, and have undergone corrective surgery, with caregivers able to communicate in Turkish.

Not a fit: Children outside the 6–18 age range, non-Turkish speakers, or those with hearing, vision, or comprehension impairments are unlikely to be eligible or benefit from participation.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, clinicians in Turkey will have a validated Turkish Baylor Continence Scale to support more accurate treatment and follow-up decisions for affected children.

How similar studies have performed: Cross-cultural adaptations of continence instruments have generally been successful, and similar validation methods are commonly used to produce reliable language versions.
