What this trial studies
Vale+Tú Salud adapts a culturally tailored, corner-based outreach program for Latino day laborers and delivers group problem-solving sessions, a booster session, or standard of care across randomized corner sites. The trial gathers information on cultural, socioeconomic, interpersonal, and work-related factors that influence COVID-19 prevention behaviors. Adherence to social distancing, handwashing, and PPE use is measured one month after the intervention. The project also includes rapid, just-in-time sharing of results with organizations serving Latino immigrants to speed dissemination.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal participants are people who self-identify as Hispanic or Latino, who gather at street corners seeking day labor and have been previously hired at those corners, and who do not have recent COVID-19 symptoms.
Not a fit: People who do not seek work at corner sites, who have not previously been hired at a corner, or who have had COVID-19 symptoms in the past 48 hours are unlikely to be eligible or to benefit.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the program could increase COVID-19 prevention behaviors among Latino day laborers and reduce their risk of infection.
How similar studies have performed: Community and peer-led behavioral programs have shown mixed but promising effects on prevention behaviors in marginalized groups, while corner-based efforts specifically for Latino day laborers and COVID-19 are relatively novel.
