Using Wii console exercises to improve shoulder movement in women with lymphedema after mastectomy
Effect of Wii-console Based Exercise on Shoulder Range of Motion for Post-mastectomy

What this trial studies
This study aims to evaluate the impact of Wii-console based exercises on shoulder range of motion (ROM) in women who have developed lymphedema following mastectomy. The approach involves comparing traditional physical therapy sessions with Wii-console exercises, which provide real-time feedback and motivation through a virtual reality environment. The study will assess both shoulders and consider the effect of dominant side on outcomes. The goal is to determine if this innovative exercise method can enhance recovery and functionality for these patients.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are females who have undergone mastectomy with lymph node dissection and developed lymphedema post-surgery.
Not a fit: Patients with vision problems, balance disorders, or other musculoskeletal conditions affecting the shoulders may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve shoulder mobility and quality of life for post-mastectomy lymphedema patients.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of virtual reality in rehabilitation is gaining traction, this specific application of Wii-console exercises for post-mastectomy lymphedema is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
