Using Virtual Reality to Improve Triage Skills in Nursing Students
To Evaluate Whether Virtual Reality Compared to Standard Education Improves Nursing Students' Ability to Triage in a Simulated Mass Casualty Incident- a RCT

What this trial studies
This interventional study investigates the effectiveness of Virtual Reality (VR) training compared to traditional education methods in enhancing the triage abilities of nursing students during simulated mass casualty incidents (MCIs). Nursing students from a university in Stockholm will be randomly assigned to either a VR training group or a control group receiving standard education. The study aims to measure not only the accuracy of triage decisions but also the time taken to triage and the retention of theoretical knowledge over time. Participants will undergo assessments immediately after training and again several months later to evaluate their learning outcomes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are nursing students enrolled in a disaster medicine or emergency care course during their fifth semester.
Not a fit: Patients who are not nursing students or those not enrolled in the relevant course will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could significantly improve the triage skills of nursing students, leading to better patient outcomes in real mass casualty situations.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promising results using VR for training in medical education, suggesting that this approach may enhance learning outcomes.
