What this trial studies
This clinical trial evaluates the effectiveness of a virtual reality (VR) intervention aimed at reducing stigma, increasing empathy, and improving attitudes towards individuals with psychotic disorders. Participants, who are healthcare professionals, will engage with a VR experience and complete questionnaires before, immediately after, and one month following the intervention. The study compares the effects of the VR intervention against a control VR experience to assess its impact on participants' perceptions and attitudes. The goal is to foster a more supportive environment for those experiencing mental health challenges.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are healthcare professionals aged 21 and older who work directly with patients and are employed by the Institute of Mental Health.
Not a fit: Patients who experience motion sickness or have a history of epilepsy may not benefit from this study due to the nature of the virtual reality intervention.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could lead to improved understanding and support for individuals with mental disorders among healthcare professionals.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of virtual reality in mental health interventions is emerging, this specific approach to addressing stigma and attitudes is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
