What this trial studies

This study aims to compare the effects of immersive virtual reality reminiscence therapy with traditional reminiscence therapy on cognitive function and psychological wellbeing in institutionalized older adults. Participants aged 60 and above will engage in either VR reminiscence or traditional therapy sessions, with assessments conducted to measure improvements in cognitive abilities and mental health. The research seeks to explore the potential of technology in enhancing therapeutic outcomes for older adults in care facilities.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are older adults aged 60 and above who can communicate clearly and do not have impairments that hinder participation in reminiscence therapy.

Not a fit: Patients with severe cognitive impairments or those unable to tolerate the use of a Head Mounted Display headset may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve cognitive function and psychological wellbeing in older adults living in institutions.

How similar studies have performed: While reminiscence therapy is well-established, the use of virtual reality in this context is relatively novel and has limited prior research.
