What this trial studies
This study investigates the impact of virtual reality glasses on patients undergoing extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) for kidney stones. The intervention aims to assess whether the immersive experience provided by the glasses can alleviate pain, reduce anxiety, and enhance overall comfort during the procedure. Participants will be adults who are experiencing ESWL for the first time and meet specific eligibility criteria. The study will compare the experiences of those using virtual reality glasses to standard care without this intervention.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older who are undergoing ESWL for the first time and do not have any sensory impairments.
Not a fit: Patients who are using analgesic or anxiolytic medications prior to the procedure or those with psychiatric disorders may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve patient comfort and reduce anxiety and pain during kidney stone treatments.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of virtual reality in medical settings is gaining traction, this specific application in ESWL is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
