Using tranexamic acid to prevent bleeding during surgery for spinal tumors in lung cancer patients

Tranexamic Acid Use for Bleeding Prevention in the Surgical Treatment of Metastatic Spinal Tumor in Lung Cancer Patients: a Triple Blinded, Randomized Controlled Trial to Assess the Efficacy of Tranexamic Acid for Hemostasis

Phase1; Phase2 Interventional Second Affiliated Hospital, School of Medicine, Zhejiang University · NCT06023212

What this trial studies

This study investigates the effectiveness of tranexamic acid in reducing blood loss during and after surgical procedures for patients with metastatic spinal tumors related to lung cancer. It compares outcomes between patients receiving tranexamic acid and those receiving a saline solution. The focus is on patients undergoing separation surgery for solitary spinal neoplasms. The study aims to address the significant risk of massive blood loss associated with these surgeries.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients diagnosed with metastatic carcinoma of the thoracolumbar spine who are undergoing separation surgery for a solitary neoplasm.

Not a fit: Patients with abnormal coagulation function, allergies to tranexamic acid, or those with neoplasms involving multiple spine segments may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly reduce perioperative and postoperative bleeding, improving patient outcomes and recovery times.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promising results with tranexamic acid in reducing bleeding in various surgical contexts, suggesting potential success for this approach.
