What this trial studies
Researchers will show the film Queen of Katwe to roughly 250 students at a mixed secondary school in Ngong town, Kajiado County, Kenya, and collect data before and after the screening. Feasibility will be measured through logistical observations, cost analysis, and the Feasibility of Intervention Measure, while acceptability will be measured by the Acceptability of Intervention Measure and surveys. Engagement will be assessed via student response surveys and focus group discussions with students and teachers. The study aims to determine whether this low-cost, media-based role-model intervention can be delivered in school settings and inform potential wider use.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal participants are students aged 13–19 who attend the selected mixed secondary school in Ngong town, Kajiado County.
Not a fit: Students outside the 13–19 age range, those not enrolled at the selected school, or individuals who do not relate to the film's message may not experience benefit.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this low-cost approach could boost student motivation and academic engagement and be scaled to support learning in resource-limited schools.
How similar studies have performed: Previous media-based and role-model interventions have shown promise for improving student motivation in some settings, but implementation in Kenyan school settings remains underexplored.
