What this trial studies
This study aims to develop and evaluate a multi-component technology-based care intervention called Improving Home hospice Management of End of life issues through technology (I-HoME). It involves weekly telehealth visits and educational videos for informal caregivers of patients receiving home hospice care. Initially, a pilot study with 6 dyads will optimize data collection protocols and the intervention, followed by a randomized pilot study comparing I-HoME to usual care with 100 dyads in total.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include English-speaking patients aged 65 and older who are enrolled in home hospice care.
Not a fit: Patients with terminal dementia or cognitive impairments that prevent informed consent may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could enhance the quality of life for patients in home hospice by effectively managing their symptoms.
How similar studies have performed: While technology-based interventions in hospice care are promising, this specific approach is novel and has not been extensively tested.
