What this trial studies
This clinical trial aims to evaluate the effectiveness of stellate ganglion block in improving symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea. Participants diagnosed with moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea, who have not responded adequately to continuous positive airway pressure treatment, will be randomly assigned to receive either routine therapy or stellate ganglion block. The study will assess swallowing function before and after the intervention using video fluoroscopic swallowing studies to determine the impact of the treatment.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults over 18 years old with moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea who have not achieved satisfactory results from continuous positive airway pressure treatment.
Not a fit: Patients with severe cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, respiratory, hepatic, or renal diseases, or those with a history of neck surgery or psychiatric disorders may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this treatment could provide a new therapeutic option for patients with obstructive sleep apnea who do not respond to standard therapies.
How similar studies have performed: While the approach of using stellate ganglion block is innovative, similar studies have not been widely reported, making this a potentially novel intervention.
