Using red laser therapy to improve healing in palate wounds after gingival graft surgery
Photobiomodulation in Gingival Graft Donor Areas: Clinical, Somatosensory, and Quality of Life Evaluations
This study is testing if using red laser therapy can help people heal better and feel less pain after having gum surgery compared to just using regular wound dressings.

What this trial studies
This clinical trial aims to evaluate the effects of photobiomodulation using red laser on the healing of gingival graft donor areas in the palate compared to standard wound dressing protection. Participants requiring gingival graft surgeries will be randomly assigned to receive either laser treatment or just wound dressing. The study will assess the speed of somatosensory recovery, pain reduction, and overall quality of life improvements over a period of 60 days. Data collected will help determine the efficacy of laser therapy in enhancing recovery outcomes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients with healthy mucosa in the palate who are scheduled for gingival graft surgery.
Not a fit: Patients with prosthetic coverage of the palate, previous gingival graft removals, smokers, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and those on anticonvulsants or immunosuppressants may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to faster recovery and reduced pain for patients undergoing gingival graft surgeries.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific application of photobiomodulation in palate wounds is novel, similar studies have shown promising results in other surgical contexts.
