What this trial studies

This investigation involves a double-blinded randomized trial to evaluate the effectiveness of a probiotic supplement in reducing symptoms associated with Long COVID. A total of 240 participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the probiotic or a placebo for a duration of twelve weeks. Participants will monitor their symptoms through an app and complete online questionnaires at specified intervals. Additionally, a subgroup of 60 participants will undergo laboratory tests to assess blood markers, cognitive function, and gut microbiome changes.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals who have been diagnosed with Long COVID, experiencing persistent symptoms for at least 12 weeks following a confirmed or suspected COVID-19 infection.

Not a fit: Patients with significant co-morbidities or pre-existing conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, or cancer may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide a new therapeutic option for alleviating symptoms in individuals suffering from Long COVID.

How similar studies have performed: While the use of probiotics in various conditions has been explored, this specific approach for Long COVID is novel and has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
