What this trial studies
This study evaluates the effectiveness and safety of winterized Pistacia lentiscus oil in treating purulent bacterial overinfection in pediatric patients with rhinitis. It is a multicenter, randomized controlled trial involving children aged 2 to 10 years, comparing the oil treatment to a saline solution. Participants will receive either nasal drops of the oil or saline for six days, with clinical evaluations conducted to assess symptom improvement and antibiotic use. The goal is to explore a non-antibiotic treatment option for this condition.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are children aged 2 to 10 years with recent onset of purulent rhinitis symptoms.
Not a fit: Patients with symptoms lasting more than five days or those with certain medical conditions or allergies may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this treatment could reduce the need for antibiotics in children suffering from bacterial overinfection in rhinitis.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of natural oils in treating respiratory conditions is explored, this specific approach with winterized Pistacia lentiscus oil is novel and has not been extensively tested in similar studies.
