What this trial studies

This randomized study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of pelvic floor exercises in preventing Low Anterior Resection Syndrome (LARS) in patients who have undergone mini-invasive rectal resection. Participants will receive professional guidance from a physiotherapist for pelvic floor exercises before and after surgery, followed by a month of home exercises. The study will compare the incidence and severity of LARS between those who perform the exercises and those who do not, while also assessing patient adherence and quality of life post-surgery.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients undergoing mini-invasive low anterior rectal resection who can understand and consent to participate.

Not a fit: Patients with serious psychiatric diagnoses or those who do not agree to participate in the study may not benefit.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly reduce the incidence and severity of LARS, improving the quality of life for patients after rectal surgery.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited high-quality evidence specifically addressing this approach, existing data suggest that pelvic floor exercises may help prevent LARS, indicating potential for success.
