What this trial studies

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of neurofeedback (NF) in enhancing integrative body-mind training (IBMT) to reduce polysubstance use. Participants will engage in IBMT while receiving real-time feedback on their brain activity, specifically targeting self-control networks. The study will include individuals with a history of heavy drinking, cannabis use, and daily cigarette smoking, who do not have other psychiatric diagnoses. The goal is to determine if this combined approach can lead to improved outcomes in managing substance use disorders.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older with a history of heavy episodic drinking, cannabis use, and daily cigarette smoking, without other psychiatric diagnoses.

Not a fit: Patients with psychiatric disorders other than substance use disorders or those currently using illicit drugs may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could provide a novel non-pharmacological treatment option for individuals struggling with multiple substance use disorders.

How similar studies have performed: While the use of neurofeedback in substance use treatment is emerging, this specific combination of NF and IBMT is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
