What this trial studies
This study investigates whether music therapy can decrease the need for pharmacological sedation in adult patients receiving mechanical ventilation in the ICU. Participants will listen to music selected by a music therapist through headphones for two hours each day over two days. The study will monitor various physiological parameters, including heart rate, blood pressure, and respiratory rate, as well as the amount of sedation administered. A total of 100 patients will be randomly assigned to either receive music or not during their treatment.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adult patients over 18 years old who are receiving mechanical ventilation in the ICU.
Not a fit: Patients who are deaf or under 18 years old will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could reduce the reliance on sedative medications, leading to improved patient outcomes and comfort.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promising results with music therapy in various clinical settings, suggesting potential benefits in similar approaches.
