What this trial studies
This study investigates the impact of music listening on postoperative pain intensity and mobility in patients recovering from fragility hip fractures at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. It aims to provide a non-pharmacological intervention to enhance pain control alongside standard analgesic protocols, which may be inadequate for elderly patients. By incorporating music into the rehabilitation process, the study seeks to determine if this approach can lead to better outcomes in pain management and mobility for these patients.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are elderly patients who have been emergency admitted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for surgical intervention due to fragility hip fractures.
Not a fit: Patients with cognitive impairments, acute delirium, or significant hearing or vision deficits may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could provide a safe and effective method for reducing postoperative pain and improving mobility in elderly patients with fragility hip fractures.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown that music can effectively reduce pain in postoperative settings, suggesting potential success for this novel application in fragility hip fractures.
