What this trial studies
This study investigates the effects of music on pain and anxiety levels in patients undergoing flexible cystoscopy. Participants will be randomly assigned to listen to either their preferred music, classical music, or no music during the procedure. The study aims to determine if patient-preferred music is more effective than classical music or no music in alleviating discomfort. By comparing these groups, the research seeks to identify optimal non-pharmacological interventions for managing pain and anxiety in urology patients.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are outpatient men and women aged 40 years or older who require diagnostic or surveillance flexible cystoscopy.
Not a fit: Patients with recent use of narcotics, current urinary tract infections, or those with chronic pelvic pain conditions may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide a simple and effective way to enhance patient comfort during cystoscopy procedures.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown that music can effectively reduce pain and anxiety in medical procedures, but this specific comparison of preferred versus classical music is novel.
