What this trial studies
This clinical trial investigates the effects of live and pre-recorded music interventions on dialysis patients, focusing on alleviating pain, anxiety, depression, and improving overall quality of life. Participants will attend their regular dialysis sessions for one week to gather baseline data, followed by a week of live music intervention, and then a week of pre-recorded music. The study aims to compare the effects of these two types of music on patients' mental health and physical discomfort. This research is particularly significant as it addresses a gap in local studies on music interventions for dialysis patients in Singapore.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 21 to 90 who are undergoing dialysis at specified centers in Singapore and can communicate in English, Mandarin, Malay, or Hokkien.
Not a fit: Patients with diagnosed dementia, cognitive impairment, or psychiatric disorders may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could significantly improve the quality of life and mental health of dialysis patients through music therapy.
How similar studies have performed: While music interventions have shown promise in other contexts, this specific approach has not been previously tested in Singapore, making it a novel investigation.
