What this trial studies
This study aims to assess the effectiveness of external beam radiation therapy for prostate cancer using advanced MRI techniques. Twenty patients diagnosed with prostate cancer will undergo three MRI scans at different stages of their radiation treatment. These scans will utilize various advanced imaging sequences, including MR spectroscopy and diffusion-weighted imaging, to monitor treatment response and potential side effects on surrounding tissues. The goal is to provide early insights into treatment effectiveness, allowing for timely interventions if necessary.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are men diagnosed with histologically-confirmed prostate cancer who are planning to undergo external beam radiation therapy.
Not a fit: Patients who cannot undergo MRIs or have contraindications such as allergies to gadolinium contrast agents or chronic kidney disease may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to improved monitoring of prostate cancer treatment and better management of side effects.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies utilizing advanced MRI techniques for cancer treatment assessment have shown promise, indicating that this approach is both relevant and potentially beneficial.
