Using MRI to develop a virtual biopsy for glioma grading

Virtual Biopsy Development to Identify Patient's Glioma Grade at the CHU of Poitiers Using Magnetic Resonance Imaging

NA · Poitiers University Hospital · NCT04313140

What this trial studies

This study aims to develop a virtual biopsy technique that utilizes magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to accurately identify the grade of gliomas, which are tumors of the central nervous system. Currently, the only definitive way to determine tumor grade is through anatomical biopsy, which can be invasive. By leveraging artificial intelligence algorithms, this approach seeks to provide a non-invasive alternative for assessing tumor characteristics based on prior imaging. The goal is to enhance clinical decision-making and treatment planning for patients with suspected gliomas.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older with suspected gliomas who have prior imaging available.

Not a fit: Patients who are unable to undergo MRI examinations or those with legal protections, such as minors or individuals under guardianship, may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could provide a less invasive method for glioma grading, improving patient comfort and potentially leading to more timely and appropriate treatments.

How similar studies have performed: While the use of MRI and artificial intelligence in tumor assessment is an emerging field, this specific approach to glioma grading through virtual biopsy is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
