Using micro connective tissue grafts to treat multiple gum recession defects

Tunnel Surgery Combined With a Micro Connective Tissue Graft for the Treatment of Multiple Adjacent Gingival Recession Defects: a Multi-center Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial.

NA · Göteborg University · NCT06030947

What this trial studies

This project aims to evaluate the one-year outcomes of treating multiple adjacent gingival recession defects (MAGRD) using a modified coronally advanced tunnel technique (MCAT). Participants will be divided into two groups, one receiving conventional connective tissue grafts (CTG) and the other receiving micro-CTGs. The study will assess the effectiveness and predictability of micro-CTGs compared to traditional methods, focusing on root coverage and patient outcomes. The research addresses the challenge of limited donor tissue when treating multiple defects.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are systemically healthy adults aged 18 and older with 4 to 6 adjacent gingival recessions of at least 2 mm in depth.

Not a fit: Patients who smoke, have uncontrolled medical conditions, or a history of previous root coverage procedures may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could provide a less invasive and more effective treatment option for patients with multiple gum recession defects.

How similar studies have performed: While traditional connective tissue grafts have shown favorable results, the use of micro-CTGs is a novel approach that has not been extensively tested in similar studies.
