What this trial studies

This study evaluates the effectiveness of melatonin in reducing postoperative pain in patients undergoing simple nephrectomy. It involves 40 participants aged 18 to 65, who will be divided into two groups to compare pain scores, morphine consumption, and other outcomes post-surgery. The study will assess various factors including hemodynamics, anxiety levels, patient satisfaction, and any adverse events. All patients will receive a preoperative evaluation and be instructed on pain assessment using a visual analog scale.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 to 65 with ASA physical status I or II who are scheduled for simple nephrectomy.

Not a fit: Patients with a history of allergic reactions to melatonin, those with certain medical conditions, or those on specific medications may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to improved pain management and reduced reliance on opioids after kidney surgery.

How similar studies have performed: While the use of melatonin for pain management is being explored, this specific application in postoperative nephrectomy is relatively novel.
