What this trial studies
This study evaluates the effectiveness of a dietary supplement containing Maqui Berry extract in treating oral candidiasis among patients receiving standard antifungal therapy. It involves 90 participants divided into three groups based on their health status and denture use, with each group receiving either the standard treatment or the combination of standard treatment and Maqui Berry extract. The study aims to assess whether this new approach can improve treatment outcomes by disarming the Candida fungus rather than eliminating it. Participants will be monitored for clinical signs and microbiological confirmation of infection throughout the study.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults over 18 with confirmed Candida spp. infections, specifically those who are systemically healthy and wear dentures or have diabetes.
Not a fit: Patients with other systemic diseases or oral mucosal conditions may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could provide a novel treatment option for patients suffering from oral candidiasis, particularly those with diabetes.
How similar studies have performed: While the approach of using anti-virulence strategies is gaining interest, this specific application of Maqui Berry extract in treating oral candidiasis is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
