Using machine learning to identify high-risk patients with early-stage lung cancer

A Machine Learning Approach to Identify Patients With Resected Non-small-cell Lung Cancer With High Risk of Relapse

Observational University Hospital, Toulouse · NCT05732974

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to identify patients with resected non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) Stage IIIA who are at high risk of relapse using a machine learning approach. It will utilize data from an existing cohort of patients enrolled in a previous study as a training set, alongside a new concurrent cohort for validation. The goal is to develop a predictive model that can help in stratifying patients based on their risk of cancer recurrence, addressing the current lack of validated prognostic biomarkers in this area.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients diagnosed with early-stage non-small cell lung cancer who are scheduled for surgical resection.

Not a fit: Patients with other cancers in the last five years or those under legal protection may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved risk stratification for patients, allowing for more personalized treatment plans and potentially better outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: While machine learning approaches in oncology are gaining traction, this specific application in identifying relapse risk in NSCLC is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
